Hornby Island of British Columbia, Canada, is one of the two northernmost Gulf Islands, the other being Denman Island. It is located near Vancouver Island's Comox Valley. There is a small community of 1,225 residents (as of the 2021 census) on the island. It is home to many artists, retired professionals, small business owners, remote workers, and young families. Parks and amenities on Hornby include Tribune Bay Provincial Park, Helliwell Provincial Park, Ford's Cove, and Whaling Station Bay. The island is also a popular mountain biking destination, with a variety of designated trails in Mount Geoffrey Regional Nature Park, Mount Geoffrey Escarpment Provincial Park, and on Crown Land. The total land area is 29.92 square kilometres (11.55 sq mi), of which 40% is parkland.

We usually see deer on Hornby and this trip was no exception. This young fawn appeared with its mother in Heather and Tim's yard, by the garden.

Wading out into the water at Tribune Bay isn't for the faint of heart. Even during our first visit back in 2009, I found the water temperature to be quite cold. Even so, the water is crystal clear.

Blackberries are native to the Pacific Northwest and are found all over Hornby, even in ditches. These bushes in Elaine's garden were loaded with sweet fruit.

I didn't get the name of this flowering shrub, but it's dark pink flower clusters were stunning.

This circle of stones was created by some locals. I don't know if there's any deeper symbolism beyond the creation of an artistic work.
